I asked a question yesterday about a 300 dollar computer build, and there are some in my family who are skeptical about building a computer as this would be the first time I have built a computer. I have found a video to follow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1NxsHpaL_s), and was wondering what are the risks to building a desktop. Also, after I follow this guide, are the only parts left obtaining an OS like Microsoft XP, and hooking up a monitor, keyboard and mouse?

The risks are buying parts that are not compatible, not following the instructions accurately and damaging a part, not taking static electrical discharge precautions and damaging a part.
I would suggest that you watch and read more than one set of instructions because there are a great variety of parts and one video will not cover them all. There are several kinds of video cards and have different instructions for installing them. The cpu have a great variety of different type of heatsink and fans and they are not installed in the same way.
Each computer part comes with instructions on how to install it.
Here is a link to a magazine that has a lot of good info on reviewing parts and building computers.

Quite simply, you don't. The built in video cards that come on most motherboards are really low end. They use shared memory, which is really slow, and they don't have very good Direct3D or OpenGL support. If you want decent gaming performance, you pretty much have to install an external video card.
