There are about 10 times more students getting computer engineering degrees than there are available jobs, and the growth rate for new jobs is about one third that of software engineering. There are about 10 times more jobs in software engineering while the number of students getting computer science degrees has dropped by 50% in the last 10 years. Just because it has "computer" and "engineering" in the name doesn't mean that there will be a lot of high paying jobs available for new graduates. Their products are built in China by Foxconn. Apple is basically more of a software company and product design company, not a computer manufacturer. Hardware is a commodity business with low margins and intense competition from overseas manufacturers. Software is much more profitable.

How important is ABET accreditation for the field of computer engineering?

My first choice school is the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill but they are not ABET accredited. How important is ABET accreditation for the field of computer engineering. I have heard that it is important and that is isn't. Help?
