I need to teach a 60+ year old how email and the internet works. I need visuals and a clear way to explain it. The person I am trying to teach doesn't like computers & technology, but does realize the significance of it in the world today. I'm having a difficult time trying to explain it since it comes so naturally to me.

Internet for Dummies is a good source. I got it for my elderly parents after my brother and I, who both live away, finally convinced them that a computer would be fun and beneficial. I don't like the titles of the books but they are good for basic starting info.

How do I put a password on my computer so others can't access my info?

I have Windows XP, and I know I have to start with the control panel; is that the screen I access by clicking on the start button in the lower left corner of my screen? When I do, a screen pops up that has Windows Excel, and Microsoft Word on it, and on the right are listed My Documents, Favorites, and My Network Places. What I am not able to find is the User Accts. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten that far in computer class! Thanks.

Restricting access to your computer:
Most computers allow creating a BIOS password. Without a password your DVD/CD or floppy drives can not be used to boot the computer or reinstall Windows, bypassing all your Windows passwords. It also prevents the hard drives from being used, preventing entering Windows âsafe modeâ which can be used to modify your passwords.
The bios password can often be easily defeated.
Add a password to the BIOS.
