I know there are lots of jobs to be had in the IT industry, but one of the most common descriptions of IT I've heard of is that it is geared more towards "working with people" than Computer Science is.

I'm just wondering to what extent this description should apply to it.. are Info Tech jobs heavy on customer service and the such?

Answer
IT is a very general term used to refer to any job related to computing systems. Certainly if you work in customer service/technical support, it's all about helping other people with their problems, doing setups and installations. You have to have a lot of patience because the majority of the services calls you get will become very repetitive with people have the same problems over and over again. They will make you feel like you're a genius and users are absolute idiots, but of course, you can't treat them that way.

There are many jobs within IT that involve just working in your world doing your own thing, like programmers who just code to specs sitting in front of they computer all day, system administrators that take care of the machines holed up in the machine room, etc. But they would just be workers. If you want to advance in your career, you will have to interact with clients and business associates.

If you're talking about "Computer Science" vs. "Information Systems/Technolocy" as a major in school, yes, Information Tech is more geared towards understanding the business side of things, and yes actual computer scientists/engineers study Computer Science, but people from both fields go into IT in the workplace.

Any tips on customizing a gaming computer?

Hi for the last couple of months I have been trying too buy a gaming computer, but I can't find what are the best graphics card is or video card or any components like that.I have about 1200$ so I have the money too build a good enough computer but I just don't know what are the best items too use too play Pc games (horror games amnesia dark descent(war games battlefield3) any tips on how too customize one would be a great help.

Answer
When buying a new gaming PC, the three most important words are 'upgrade, upgrade, upgrade'. Really, you'll be doing this for the next year at least -- get used to the idea. Now, the only questions are what and when?

First, itemize these factors in order of your priorities: money, energy, heat and performance. These factors can be broken down thusly:

Money - Max disposable cash per year vs. vacation, family, etc.
Energy - Environmental factors (green thinking) vs. real cost.
Heat - Energy waste vs. cooling costs.
Performance - Gaming experience vs. score (for example, if you usually play 'online' vs. alone).

Once you've established how you'll be weighing these decisions, you can begin evaluating which components meet your requirements. For example, if two graphics cards are of nearly equal performance (your first priority), then which generates less heat (your second priority), etc.
The most important components IMO are the CPU and motherboard -- the bedrock, or foundation, of your new computer. Regardless of which components you choose, your system is not going to go faster than the CPU can handle the movement of data and program instructions, and the motherboard isn't going to allow you to upgrade beyond it's capabilities.
Your upgrade potential will have a two-year window which encompasses the 'end of life' cycle of one component with the introduction of the new model, followed a year later by the reduction in the price of the old model. This is not an exact science; I'm just trying to get you in the 'ball park'.
Now let's talk performance: The first place I refer folks is the No.1 site for the most complete real-world test results for virtually every possible combination of components with real games/apps -- www.passmark.com.
Jump to the CPU benchmarks, which not only tell you how they perform, but what motherboard gave them an edge. Two thoughts that might accompany your ravenous drive for a gaming system: saving energy and not worrying about cooling, a Major issue with powerful systems. I recommend AMD processors if you wish to save energy and generate less heat -- unless you really don't mind having to also resort to liquid cooling. Anyway, you'll save money also.
If performance is your main issue, I'd suggest checking out what may be required for the specific game you're interested in playing. Look for reviews of that game which reveal how the game runs best -- is it more CPU or GPU intensive? Does it play better with an NVIDIA or ATI graphics card?

As a rule of thumb: a 10% increase in performance in Any area between two components is not significant, and the less significant issues suddenly stand out, such as energy, heat and money.
My personal recommendation is to go with a multi-GPU system, either SLI or Crossfire since more and more games are jumping on the multi-GPU bandwagon. In fact, that's the main impetus for the graphics card companies piggy-backing GPU's on one card, to up the GPU ante. In the short run (since you'll be upgrading at some point), you'll save money, energy and heat by going with two cheaper older models of graphics card over a energy soaking single card, especially since the single card will be burning energy All the time, while the multi-GPU system will only kick in the extra capability when a game needs it.
