I was planning on majoring in Accounting, but after taking a few classes and being bored to near-death I am considering switching to Computer Information Technology with minors in Computer Science and Business Administration. I got good grades in my Accounting classes (currently 3.95 GPA and Dean's List every semester) but I can't see myself doing Accounting for the rest of my life. So would this switch be a good idea? Can I earn a decent salary? What are some good jobs available with this degree?

How much does a Computer Information Technology with a associate degree makes.
I am going to school for two years to earn a computer information technology degree at a community college.
My two questions are How much will I make a year or hour? What types of job can I work for?

Your jobs will be limited to low entry level. If you want to have a higher paying job in IT it would be in your interest to get your 4 year degree after completing your associates. In IT the job you are able to get depends primarily on 3 things:
1. Education/knowledge base
2. Certifications
3. Experience (VERY IMPORTANT IN Information Tech.)
Most students that graduate with their 4 year degree will start off as a entry level administrator or more likely a help desk support. The information and experience that you gain working help desk can be all the difference in how successful you are later in your career. You learn a lot of technical aspects that are crucial to learning and succeeding as a senior network admin or similar level job. Next you will have to have the right certifications for the career path that you wish to pursue. If you want to work in networking its a good idea to have some of the Cisco certs such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, etc. However its probably best to start with an easier cert such as CompTIA A+, Security +, and/or Network +.
Regardless of your certs or how much you claim to know, when it comes to higher positions you will likely be overlooked for somebody with experience. Its one thing to have conceptual knowledge, its a whole different ballpark to be able to implement what you know in a hands on environment. Also you want to make sure that you have a variety of skills, it's okay to have expertise in one area but you need to understand other areas as well.
IT is always changing, the issues that we face today will be non existent in 5 years meaning that during your entire career you will have to continue to study, learn, and re-certify if you wish to be successful in IT.
IT is becoming more and more popular resulting in an increase in jobs, however these jobs are competitive due to the large number of students, and professionals that want to work in IT. So from that it's good that you're pursuing your associates, however without a bachelors degree and certifications, your career growth will be limited in IT. Because IT is constantly chaging and you'll have to continuously learn your entire career, you should plan on getting your bachelors.
as far as salary I'd say between $30,000 - $40,000.
NOTE: I will say that IT has a number of computer wiz kids that just know more, and are better than most people will ever be. In this case 4 year degree isn't really needed bc they are already at such a high level. If you are or one day become such an expert, the sky is the limit.
