you cant realy hack anything with javascript since this code execute on your computer but u can mess up certain info u send them and maybe be able to acces certain thing u should not be able to see

I bought a programming book, but am looking for something that will give a general overview.

You should also speak to your school's counselor or contact someone at a local college to see what courses you should take.
