How can i get my computer to go past the motherboard info screen so i can reinstall windows xp?

Q. I tried reinstalling Windows xp and when my computer restarted it stopped at the first screen, the one that says 'press DEL for setup' it wont go past that, but somtimes (not often) it goes to a device list (i guess lol) and it stops there, right now i have it booting from the disk but i cant even get in to change that PLEASE HELP ME!!

Answer
Sounds like a hardware issue. A few streps to try:

- First step it to always unplug the machine from the wall when working inside the case.
- Unplug all external devices from the computer except the monitor and the keyboard.
(FROM HERE ON YOU NEED TO BE COMFORTABLE WORKING ON ELECTRONICS TO PROCEED) (SEE YOUR MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTURES WEBSITE FOR DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS) (I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE INCURRED)
- Unplug all devices from the motherboard except maybe the CDRom that you are trying to boot from.
- Take out the CMOS battery and leave out for a few minutes.
- Put the CMOS into failsafe, or reset, mode via onboard jumper.
- Put CMOS battery back in and plug the computer back into the wall.
- Try powering up the system and see how far you get.

Like I said previously you need to be a little confident with working with the internal components of computers to do most of this but this is the bast way to diagnose the problem. If you still have issues after following the steps then you might have deeper issues. The motherboard itself might be at fault.

Windows xp professional?

Q. Xp dimension c521, I was given this computer an it is locked up by administrator nobody knows the password. How can I reset everything to like it was out of box without password?

Answer
Computers with Windows XP may have come with disks instead of a recovery partition. For some reason, Dell likes to make it impossible to get information about any of their machines without the system tag ...

Here are the published specs for your system: http://www.pcworld.com/product/29434/dimension-c521-desktop-customizable.html

If I were in your shoes, I would go to the site forums.mydigitallife.info
There, in their XP section, I am reasonably certain you can find a link to a download for XP Media Center Edition, which is what your machine came with. You will need to use the license key one the Microsoft sticker on the machine.

If you just can't get on it because of the Admin account, another option is to reset the admin password which will allow you to log on and then either use as is or to get the Windows Key which is installed on the machine.
