It means choosing a major that is likely to land you a caeer. You could be interested in music, Sociology, Theology, and then graduate and not find a job. Now you owe the student loans back. The cliche "choose what interests you" no longer applies. Accounting, Computers, Engineering and Nursing, are where the jobs are at. The rest is merely hit, miss, gamble, risk, or you need a masters too. Being miserable doing something that's so and so, will at least keep you off the streets and pay the bills and allow you to buy the corvette and the boat. That being explained, which of these two majors would allow me to make the most money?
1) Accounting
2) Computer Info Technology
Answer
That depends on where you live, i live in the Baltimore/DC area and i know there are countless jobs in the Computer info field, I myself am majoring in Information Assurance. Being in the military, i know for a fact that if you live near a military base, there will definitely be IT jobs. Accounting is also a good major, just about anywhere you could live requires accountants. You can look the employment statistics up for majors by what state you live in. But I definitely feel your pain with not being able to major in what you want. I would love to major in some sort of social science, history, or foreign language. But it's just not feasible in this job market anymore. Good luck!

Going to college no longer only means choosing an interesting major?

Accounting. Accounting can be dull, boring, monotonous, but it has to be done. And those who do it well tend to be paid well.
