I want to shutdown another computer remotely, but I want to do it to a computer outside of my network. Is there anyway to do that and if there is, how?
Answer
** messing about with other people's computers is not nice. It can damage data, it can cause hardware damage, and it is probably illegal. I am helping you because I believe most people will "do the right thing". Maybe you are helping your old grandma, and you want to shut down her computer remotely. Maybe you are taking a class, and all you need is the answer.
If you use this info to do bad things.. I will be happy to testify against you.

If you can connect remote desktop / remote assist.. just use shutdown at the command line.
If you can send net commands to that other computer.. use the command-line shutdown
(assuming your source and target both have Windows 2000 or newer)
( see link below.. as well as Microsoft website for flags and switches)
The syntax varies just slightly between versions..
Another way is to install an adapter between the computer and the AC wall outlet.
You can get remote-control adapters at lots of places.
If you get one that is network controlled.. you can just "unplug" that machine by sending the right command.
