Then, when I click OK, it proceeds to scan my computer and shows me the things that it "found." I think it just wants me to buy a certain software. Is this just a scam? Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I think it happens on random websites, not one in particular.

Is anyone else getting this message?

Answer
Yup it's a pop-up ad. No anti-virus software is that small and scans your pc just from the internet, just ignore these ad's. I do suggest investing in a firewall and an anti-virus software or at least have a freeware version installed on your pc. There are a lot of dangerous sites out there and I don't think you want them to have your personal info.

How do I delete my computer's hard drive and start over?

Sophia

I've had my Toshiba laptop for a while, it's in perfect condition and runs very smooth. (I'm giving this laptop to my younger cousin). The thing is, this laptop must have been pre-owned or something. One day when I was in documents or something and I accidentally hit some random keys and there were these pictures of people I've never seen before. They weren't bad pictures or anything, it was pictures of a young couple on a beach and man riding a bike. From the pictures, I can tell the man is a photography major, because there were several pictures of animals and other people in his portfolios and art work. The question is, how do I clean the whole hard drive without replacing it? I have some personal info on my old laptop such as college files, documents, pictures and I even used a credit card online once. Would restoring the laptop with a disk, clean off the entire hard drive? What would I need to do?

Answer
"Dariks Boot and Nuke (DBAN)" runs from a bootable CD or Floppy disk, and securely deletes (wipes) the entire content of the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect. The program is perfect for cleaning a computer before giving it away or selling it. You will download an ISO file, that needs to be burned to a CD.

The number of 'wipes' or passes can be set, but 2X would be adequate; 3X if you're really paranoid.

Use that IF you have a DVD of the operating system (for installation).
After D-ban, pop in the DVD and follow the prompts to format and install Windows.
