I have a Bachelor's degree in business admin with a concentration in computer info systems. A counselor told me I can probably get a master's degree in history or psychology without taking any prerequisite courses.
Besides history and psychology, I am also interested in biology, a more practical degree to have. However, I really dislike math. How much math is involved in a master of biology degree?
Answer
Statistics is a *must* for a MS in biology, so you'll need the prerequisite math courses. You may be required to take Biostatistics, depending on the institution, to get the MS degree. Most of my biology courses *did not* involve much math, but there were exceptions (e.g. Population Genetics). Even though math is not necessarily involved in each biology course that you'll take, you'll still need some math skills in order to complete your thesis or master's degree project. Why? Statistics helps you to design the best type of experiment and analyze your results accurately. Also, some of the courses that I completed at the masters level required students to analyze peer-reviewed literature and to determine how valid they were. Again, a working knowledge of statistics was necessary to do this. The good news is that there are many computer programs out there that help with statistics, and it's not as hard as you might think.

What do you think about getting an online degree from an established, accredited university?

I'm considering enrolling in Boston Universities (online)MS in Computer Info Systems. Does anyone think that this is a bad idea? Also, does an online degree from an established university carry the same stigma as an online degree from the for-profit schools? By the way, the only way anyone would know if I got the degree online is if I told them. There are no special identifiers on the degree.
Answer
I don't think you will have any problems. Boston U is a top rate school that employers will respect. Go for it.
