ok so i downloaded windows 7 using a torrent and everything worked until i tried to connect to my schools wireless network and it wouldnt let me beacuse it said the windows 7 os was a virus so is there anything i can do to keep windows 7 and connect to my netowork ?

It probably is and infected version with lots of goodies for the bad guys hope you didn't use a credit card or make online purchase because if you did you need to change every account you use and all passwords from a machine that not have built in infections when you get a real version of windows use wipe drive to clean computer it does DOD security wipe there is no Question YOU ARE INFECTED and I don't believe it can be Cleaned but here my removal program anyway

If you can't connect to Internet Virus/malware maybe using proxy server
go to control panal/ internet options click on connection tab LAN settings uncheck proxy server virus was probable using port 6555 for it update
This is my scrip for removal of Virus and Malware and some things to think about before you do anything please Read first # 1 should clean most computers however there will be computer that need step #2 and real bad ones all of step #3
System restore bad idea if you think you have a virus it may spread it you can lose files or programs you paid for depends on when last restore was done. never do a restore without having a full backup
format: never format with out a full backup
If you don't have internet access:
go to control internet options click on connection tab LAN settings uncheck proxy server (unless you set this up or your ISP/Administrator) virus was probable using port 6555 for it update
1: Your computer may be infected it need to be clean. run a full virus scan if you don't have anti-virus go to download.com and get a free one. do not by one on line you are infected and you may end up giving you credit card info out to thieves if it won't let you download an anti virus program boot your computer in safe-mode with networking (that the press F8 key when you restart your computer) I recommend a cold start shut the computer down and leave it off 30 sec. then restart and press F8 remember pick with arrows keys safe-mode with networking login to windows when it come up and go to download.com and download Spybot search & Destroy or MalwareBytes both will install in safe mode and run do the updates for it and do a full scan then go to eset.com and do their free online virus scan.
if this doesn't work

How to format a computer that barely functions?

My laptop (with XP) is infested with viruses and I need to format it. Problem is, I cannot properly start it anymore, it usually goes black after the windows xp logo. How do I format it like that?

ou can fix it for free, for me it takes minutes to get onto a virused PC. Aprox time for me:
-download 700mb .iso file (10-15 minutes)
- Burn .iso to a CD (5-10 minutes)
- Boot the computer from the CD (time to boot), I can view all of the information including open word, excel, etc.. files with openoffice.
- Install on the hard drive (10-25 Minutes)
If you can't do it from your pc, use another pc to download, burn the linux .iso and then bring it to your computer and boot from it. When you do the partitioning below, there will be the option format the partition on the drive or when you want to reinstall windows from the cd, there will be an option to format.
Just don't get OS X-It is was hacked in 30 minutes in 2006 and 2 minutes in 2008, look at another answer I gave for more info.
1) Depending on your Computer Specs, download the following .iso file
512mb+ Ubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 8.04, PCLinoxOS, Freespire
256-512mb Xubuntu 8.04
64-256mb PCLinixOS TinyMe

1b) Learn the differences and looks of different Desktops/Windowing Systems for Linux KDE, Gnome, XFCE, etc...
Ubuntu uses Gnome, Kubuntu is a KDE version of Ubuntu, Xubuntu is an XFCE version of Ubuntu,
PCLinxOS, Freespire use KDE..
PCLinuxOS Tinyme is a cut down version for older computers of PCLinuxOS.
- Don't base your choice simply on the look of the Linux Distribution since it is easy to change it to make it look like the other or OS X, or Windows, or anything you like
2) Burn the .iso file to a Blank CD. Make sure your software supports .iso files.. You will know if the iso file is burned correctly if the contents of the cd is anything else besides the .iso file (if you see the .iso file on the CD, then it was not done correctly).
- Not sure if your software supports it, download free isorecorder and install. Then right click on the .iso file to burn it to a cd...
3) Boot your computer from the CD (Restart computer and either change your BIOS to boot from the cd or dvd drive OR Hit F12 a bunch of times while the computer is starting up *{if the computer is not really old))
4) Once Booted, you have a ready to use computer virus free when you boot from the CD. You can...
-Use all of the software included on the CD
- Surf the internet
- Open files from your hard drive
5) Installing the Linux LiveCD onto your hard drive is easy. It will pull up a partition Manager for you and install a Grub menu so you can choose Windows or Linux.
6) Due to legal restrictions, Ubuntu does not automatically install windows media codecs, but if you want them, it is really simple to do so. (Ubuntu-restricted extras, libdvdcss..., w32codecs, flash, etc)
- Freespire has windows codecs and flash already on the Live CD due to an agreement with Microsoft.
7) With all the money saved, go buy yourself something nice.
- If you decide to reinstall windows, Ubuntu will still be on your hard drive but the Grub Menu allowing you to chose it will be gone. Lookup how to restore Grub Menu to the MBR.
- if you want to "rescue" stuff off of you windows partition, try Linux Rescue CD or trinity rescue, I would recommend installing one of the Linux Distributions above, it is easier, offers you a safe environment from windows viruses/spyware and you can get tons of stuff for free
OR EVEN EASIER...
- Follow steps 1-7 above
- in linux copy all your documents and personal files to your users home directory (/home/[username])
- install gparted or qparted from add/remove or Synaptic package manager
- shrink windows partition down to make room for a fat partition large enough to hold your windows files
- create the fat partition
- copy your personal windows files, etc.. to the fat partition just created, reinstall windows..
(your D: drive will be the copied software)...
- And then either reinstall ubuntu without formating the ubuntu partition OR restore the Grub Menu so you have both linux (or ubuntu) and Windows,
