What are some good computer specs?
Brian
Im trying to buy a computer but i cant figure out what im looking for. I mostly need it for school to write papers, do power points, etc. but i want one thats also good for gaming. Oh and i would like it to be a small laptop. What do you guys consider a good computer. If u guys can be detailed ( 4gb memory, RAM, processor info, that kind of stuff) I would be grateful. I live in California, USA.
Thx guys u r helping. I dont necessarly need to game so if its not a good fit for gaming and laptop to mix, what would be some good for just a general laptop?
Answer
For general use, you'll want a laptop with a lot of RAM. 4gb of RAM is what you can take if they don't have better, but 8GB and above should really be your choice.
Try to avoid integrated graphics cards. The Intel HD series is the most commonly integrated one you'll see. My personal favorite video cards are from the GT500-600 series. Those GT500 series will run any modern games, and should handle future ones for the next 2 or so years. I can only say that my experience with other video cards has been quite bad, and cannot recommend any others.
The best processors you'll find are the i5 or i7 Core series from Intel. Keeping in mind it will most likely be the portable series, and not as powerful as a real i5 or i7 quad core.
As for HDD(hard drive) the normal minimum is about 100GB, which is fine if you're not a hardcore gamer and only play 2-3 games. You should ask if the speed of the HDD is good, as slow ones can really bring down the rating on your laptop, and the slow ones tend to break easier. Basically, any HDD with at least 100GB should be fine, but 1-2TB is much more useful if you're a hardcore gamer or video maker.
Break down for gaming:
RAM - 8-16GB recommended.
Video Card - GT500 series. Anything non-integrated will work decently with older games, cannot vouche for newer games
Processor - Intel i5 - i7 Core, or alternatively any quadcore with 3 ghz or more(not nearly as good though)
HDD- Atleast 100GB. Make sure it's quicker if it's only 100GB though.
Non-gaming use:
RAM - 4GB-8GB
Video Card: Anything, non-integrate suggested
Processor - At least dual core, above 2.4ghz
HDD - At least 100GB
Inbetween:
RAM - 8GB - 16GB
Video Card - Non-Integrated (May need to play on low settings)
Processor - Quad Core, 2.4ghz+ (May need to play on low settings)
HDD - 100GB minimum
