video cards on desktop computers?
legsman74
hello, new to building a computer, doing research on different parts before i buy anything, i'm now looking at video cards, seeing a lot of stuff about SLI? what is it? all i know is it lets you run 2 sli video cards together. but why would you need 2 of them? unless these more to it? buy the way, what is a better brand video card PNY or PALIT? what are the most important things to look for in buying a video card anyway? thx for your info! mike
Answer
SLi is an nVidia exclusive platform designed to allow two graphics cards to run simultaneously for 2x more performance. There are some perks to be had when you're running SLi-mode. You'll be gaining performance when you play your games at high-resolutions ( E.G 1680 x 1050 and up ) and it simply looks awesome if your case has a clear window on the side. The downside however, is the fact that you'll be paying 2x more to add a second card and the power consumption/heat dissipation can be HUGE issue if your case isn't properly cooled. I would recommend staying with a single high-end card for the time being unless you plan on water cooling.
Both manufacturers are great, but like the above said, I would go with eVGA as they offer the best warranty in the industry as they cover overclocking damage. BFG and XFX are both great companies as well due to the fact that they offer lifetime warranty should anything happen to your card.
