I share wireless network with a few family members. What can I do to make sure they can't get into my computer (from another computer) to view things? I have a snoopy person who manages the network.
I have all those turned off, but he can still get into it.

Answer
Then you need encryption
http://www.filehippo.com/download_truecrypt/
This is a great open source program(FREE)

A little info
TrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted drive. On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. No data stored on an encrypted volume can be read (decrypted) without using the correct password or correct encryption key. Until decrypted, a TrueCrypt volume appears to be nothing more than a series of random numbers. The entire file system is encrypted (i.e., file names, folder names, contents of every file, and free space).

This software is highly recommended for securing data on laptops.

Now the ONLY way someone can get in and unscramble your info is figuring out your password
I would do this
Have 2 passwords
That way if the (boss, parents, school) forces you to give out your password. Give them a dummy password(the password should work)
and put in some (file text info) that you don't care about.
example:secret shopping list for christmas and a couple of stuff to believable

A common senerio, mom comes in and demands password or "your grounded or threatening to take away the car ". Give them the dummy password(parent trap) that will lead them to garbage info like "who to shop for christmas". They won't find anything bad.

But in reality your other password will lead to your secret info that can be maintained

What do you think
You still need protection against software that monitors your keyboard typing
Use this program to enter your password (That way special programs that dad put on the computer won't get the password)

It's a special virtual keyboard, you click on the letters and numbers on the screen. The only thing a KEYLOGGER CAN RECORD IS YOUR MOUSE CLICKS. There is no password to record because you typed it in with a mouse.

then go to
Neo's SafeKeys 2008 - http://www.aplin.com.au/?page_id=368 Image:Stars50.gifImage:Stars50.gifImage:Stars50.gifImage:Stars50.gif
and download "neos safekeys 2008" <----It's free

What Is A Good Online Tech School That Teaches Electronics Repair?

Q. I have been looking at a few schools, but the courses cost over $700 and I don't want to spend that type of money if the courses are crap. I have noticed that tech schools are dropping their electronics classes in favor of computer repair classes. So I might not find a school.

Answer
The only online schools that I know of that teach electronics repair is Penn Foster and Ashworth College. I completed the Ashworth course, but found the info that was thought to me to be of some help, but they don't teach enough about the repair side. Ashworth teaches the basics of how electronics work, what tools to use to repair them and how to test them, but they only offered 1 electronics kit to build and the info on testing is good, but its not enough in my opining. Penn Foster on the other hand has 40 lessons that you learn from and a bunch of hands on electronics kits to build. I am only part way through the course at Penn, but I had already taken the course when the school was known as Education Direct, but I became really sick and was unable to finish this course. So I'm taking it for a second time. Luckily Penn transferred the money that I had spent with their school before, over to the new course. So that saved me a lot of money. Penn is the better of the two schools, because you get to speak to your instructor; while Ashworth makes you speak to tutors, tutors who don't specialize in any set course. Both schools cost around the same price, almost $800, but its worth it to learn a new trade. Ashworth lets you pick how much you will spend each month on the course, while Penn Foster has a set fee of either $46 or $49. That is what I am now paying. Both schools are good, but Penn is better. At least I think so. Good luck in your education! If I were you, I would buy a few electronics books and read up on them; before you pick a school. Some good books are "Electronics For Dummies", "Using Your Meter", "How To Diagnose And Fix Everything Electronics", and "Make: Electronics" is also good. You might not like electronics repair as much as you think you hope that you do; so reading up on it will help you decide. Also, understand that there is a lot of math is electronics repair. Well, mainly on the building side of things, but there is a good amount on the repair side too. So you will need to learn some new circuit math before you can advance to the end of either schools course. I personally used a few different AndroidOS apps to help me pass some of the really troublesome math problems; like "Electronics Tool Kit", "EveryCircuit", "Equivalent Resistance", "My Electrical Calculator", "Circuit Calculators", ect. Plus some web sites with Ohms law calculators built into them. But you want to try and learn the questions on your own, before you use any tool apps that will help you cheat a bit. Because your spending the money on the course, so why not learn as much as you can from it? But the tools are helpful when you get stuck on something. Email me if you have any other questions and I will try and help you out. I hope this helps.
