Q. Hello, I have recently purchased a new video graphics card for my Gateway desktop, but unfortunately I am unable to use it because of my Multimedia controller. I know this because under my Device Manager it says it is not functioning (Multimedia Controller) and needs drivers. (see picture below). I had recently wiped my Harddrive and I never installed the drivers for that device alone. I have been searching for these drivers for about an hour. I have found the drivers page for my computer model, but not sure what to download from the list of drivers available (link below) and if it is even there. Help would really be appreciated, thanks.

Answer
I don't think it's you new Graphic Card because Graphic Card's are sometimes Plug and Play, after inserting it to the PCI Slot, Windows will detect it and install Generic Driver.

Mostly that Multimedia Controller is a Sound Device, because Graphic Cards usually are VGA with (!). But seeing that you don't have Display Adapters which your Graphic Card should be seen, it must be that you will be needing to download its driver on the manufacturer's site, either NVIDIA or ATI. Look for its Model Number and search on google.

But if you want easy access and latest drivers, I recommend you use Driver Finder, it will scan your PC's hardware devices, look for drivers compatible with it and ready for download.

Hope it helps you with your problem.

I have a home wireless network with 3 computers running Vista, how do I connect a laptop running Xp?

Q. The 3 computers are one desktop and 2 laptops that uses Vista. I bought a new mini-10 that uses XP, I am having trouble connecting this mini to my network, any suggestions?

Answer
Easy :D

In Vista, go to Networking and Sharing Center
Now click on the list File sharing, Printer sharing and Public folder to ON
Now Right click My computer>Properties
Click Change settings (bottom right)
Click the Change button "to change Domain or Workgroup"
Change the Workgroup to NET or snother short word of your choice

MAKE SURE THE WORKGROUP FOR ALL MACHINES IS THE SAME

In XP, go to My Network Places and click Setup a network for a small office or Home
In the wizard keep clicking next and make sure you put the following info

Description = something you can identify your laptop with
Workgroup= NET (or another short word your want)
File and Printer sharing = ON

Just make sure BOTH Vista and XP machines have the exact same Workgroup
And if you have a firewall, no windows one, you need to allow your network ip range
Example with Zonealarm Firewall
Click Firewall>Zones>ADD ip Range
mine is 192.168.1.67
so add 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255
Click apply

Hope that helps!
:D
