As in, does the computer know if you change hard drives and possibly operating systems? I don't think it could possibly know unless it stores boot info on the motherboard.

It stores this in an area called BIOS which has a battery back up. Hardware info anyway, could care less what OS you have within reason.

I am looking for sites that will provide info, comparisons, etc. on motherboards, cpu's, video cards, etc. I need to know the pros & cons for different components along with unbiased recommendations. Thanks.

I custom made a computer and I'm currently using it to type this message. I used Amazon because it let's you sort just about everything and I got the best deals out there for my money. I spent about $1500 and the same system would have been way over $3000 at sites like Alienware and ibuypower.com
