How to update my windows XP to a current model?

I have a computer running XP. It's in a new gaming case with one of last years top of the line graphics card. Put in a new sound card and power supply. It has three fans. I'd like to mkae it compatiable with computers out today running windows 7. My question is what else do I need to replace and how much (ball park) is reasonable to pay. Should I update the CD burner too?
