Update your antivirus and run a full scan in safe mode
If you do not have full time (active) virus protection install (only one) all are excellent:
AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10669237.html?tag=lst-0-1
or
Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
or
AOL Active Virus Shield
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp
---------------------------------------------------------
Install Windows Defender (full time spyware protection)
Perform a full scan.
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
---------------------------------------------------------
Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.
Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper
After installation: update + scan + immunize
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click âenable all protectionâ.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)
http://www.superantispyware.com/
CCleaner: Do not install toolbar option
Removes tracking cookies, unneeded files, history
In options.
Set to run when computer starts.
Place cookies you want to keep in save list
http://www.ccleaner.com/
-------------------------------------------------------------
Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.
In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.
Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn off system restore
After the malware is removed turn on system restore.

I can't connect my wireless HP laptop to my home network.?
raidven
Hi there! Thanks for your attention to these questions from the rest of us who are not as experienced, who want to learn and solve problems. I've been trying to connect my wireless HP laptop to my home network. My service provider is Verizon Broadband. I've a password protected modem-router (Westell 327W) and even though I've input the keyword, and the laptop was sucessfully connect to the router, it doesn't get on line, or connected to the internet. It says that it is hooked to my network with limited connectivity. It's very weir because it use to connect automaticaly and perfectly well few days ago, and now in a sudden when I installed a new antivirus (avast), everything messed up. I unisnstalled the antivirus, I also restored the system and it didn't work. I diagnosed the connection, it didn't work. Automatically repaired the connection, it didn't work. I changed and automatically detected the IP, nothing... Please help me out. I'm almost to the verge of a nerve breakdown.
I don't know how to check whether the IP I have is correct or not. The only option that have been left to me is "automatic IP detection". I did that but it didn't solve the problem. It's not the router, or the passcode, or the provider, because another laptop I have connects quite well to my network. May be is the laptop because when you try to connect to a nearby network which is unprotected, the same thing happen: I mean, It hooks up to the network but it doesn't get to the internet. I really appreciate the answer so far.

Edit:
Did you try to reinstall the driver for your network card of your laptop?
Try doing this to give me more info:
start > run > type in cmd > then it'll bring you to a black screen with writing, type in " ipconfig "
copy and paste it onto to here and let me see
or just email me
i try researching and i found these sites
this may or may not help:

and

hmmm that is weird and anitvirus are not suppose to do that...
well i think you might need to reinstall what ever kind of program you have: such as windows, mac, or linux.
a whole new refresh and start new
remember if you do that, you need to back up everything that is important to you or stuff you never want to loose
second option is maybe to get a new provider and see if that can work or you can get a new router
because maybe the router is connecting to the internet, but not sending information to your computer and that is not what we want!
third option is getting a new laptop
but i highly would not recommend it
but it is still an option
all i really have left to say is
make sure you have the IP address correct and the correct passcode. make sure the router is connected to the modem, which is a need need need!!! try using your laptop inside the house and see if wireless works there.
to me and the information that you have provided
its looks like you downloaded a bad antivirus and you need to start fresh
it is very weird that antivirus did that, but it happens! sadly but yes.
i hope for the best and i hope i was help!
