Are they all the same things? i know they fall under computer science. They are all different at different colleges.
And what kind of career/job can i get with a computer science-MIS, Info systems, info science degree? Be specific please.
Answer
Computer Science is for those who want to get into programming jobs primarily. They get into jobs involving software design, development, testing, implementation etc. The job could be in any industry or for a software company developing solutions targeting one or more industries.
MIS is about computer applications for running businesses. The areas of specialization are finance systems, banking systems, manufacturing systems, supply chain management, HR management, customer relationship management, etc. An MIS student will learn more generally about these systems. In order to have an appreciation for the technical aspects, an MIS curriculum will involve a lot of programming courses. Upon graduation, you will be a ready for jobs such as business analyst, program manager, project manger etc.
But, even computer science graduates can easily migrate into this role after working for a few years in software development. Many people with undergraduate degree in Computer Science, after working for a few years as software engineers, return to school to get a graduate degree in MIS.
