Q. i was stupid enough to open a file while i was on msn, and i got a message saying my computer is effected, i have norton proctetion and it says it cleared it and block what ever was trying to get on, i got rid of the file and everything looks safe, but i'm asking if norton is saying everything is safe is it 100% reliable???? as the treat gone from my pc

I need to know what Operating System you are using. Because some have a Norton removale tool. If your pc does not have this, you have to first uninstall Norton, then do a search in the registry for Norton, then Symantic, and NAV, to delete all strings and folders that that have anything to do with Norton anti virus. You can search Google for complete instruction on how to do this. Then uninstall every other anti virus program you have installed and all the spy ware and adware searching programs. Then reboot your computer. Then search Google first for Spybot Search & Destroy use the site safer networking solutions. Choose UAS , and then pick a download mirror to download from, any of theirs is good and I have used others too. When you install it make sure you also download the TeaTimer. You do not need to download other languages or other skins. But DO do the automatic updates selection. After it is installed, run it. It will take a while to do the scan but let it go. It will find everything that is not good on your pc showing all just before it is completed scanning. Do not be surprised to see thousands of items that need to be fixed. After scan check FIX ALL ITEMS. It may not remove all of them yet but you can in the next step. After it fixes what it can in the first step, reboot your pc and go into SAFE MODE by continually clicking the F8 and or the F10 key as soon as the system starts to boot. A screen will come up, select safe mode. The run spybot again and do another scan and fix all items found, then reboot. Then download NOD32. These two programs are the best programs ever and have been around for years and have a daily update feature, Spybot is totally free and NOD32 is free for 30 days but I know people that I installed it on their pcs that its been free for years as is mine. Your computer can be remotely controlled, by cracking your passwords. That's why passwords cannot be just a word. Programs do a dictionary attack putting in every word in the dictionary. Once your computer is remotely controlled, it could be used to attack others, but it would look as if you did it. I had my identity, and money, stolen twice this year. I now run anti-spyware, and my computer cannot access a site without my permission.
