Download a free Everest Home Edition here :
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23043-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html
or here
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml
Everest Home Edition is an utility to make a whole report about your PC, the OS, the hardwares, and the softwares.
Addition :
Everest can also create the report in .txt, .html, and .csv format. So you can send the report through email to your friend's father.

Can cold weather affect my computer's performance?
Q. I think my room temperature might be fiddling with my computer.
Answer
The cold should help it. Unless maybe we are talking very cold. But anyhow cool weather should keep your PCs temps down a little thus boosting performance. Now maybe if its almost 0 degrees in your room it might cause problems? Anyhow once your PC is on for 10-20 Min's unless your room is below freezing the warmth of the PC should make it warm enough to fend of any problems from the cold.
Now if your room it hot things can get bad. I suggest download a temperature monitoring program. Many recent PC's have temperature diodes in them. A great program is "EVEREST Ultimate Edition" its only a trial version but it should still show many info as well as most or all your PCs temperature's.
