How to shut down a computer on my network using cmd?

Lamb

I have read a little about it online and it seems pretty easy. I put in the entry, the ip and tried to shut it down. Didn't work though. What I need to know is what to do with the computer I'm trying to shut down to give me more access. It's a different administrator but I know the password and have full access, my account on the same computer is also administrator. Do I need to set it up to allow remote access from my other computer? How do I do this?
both computers windows 7

Answer
If you have administrative access to that computer, cmd line to shutdown is as follows,

shutdown /s /m\\ComputerName

you have to enter the name of the computer you want to shutdown instead of 'computer name'.

If you don't know the name of the pc use 'net view' command to find it.

Also you can get the syntax info by using,

shutdown /?

command.

Use
shutdown -i
command to get the ui to shutdown remote pc.

I need help with a computer problem please??

I hate stu

Hereâs the computer info:

Gateway desktop
Windows XP Professional
Netgear wireless connection w/ wireless USB device
â â
it doesnât shut down, it just never works at all
latest error message when I try to renew IP address is that it canât connect to a device that isnât there.
the problem started when one day I went to get on the internet and there was no connection. I think it was Feb. 26th.
Weâve tried restarting the modem and router. Weâve tried reinstalling the USB device. The computer works fine wired. The USB device blinks as if itâs working. All other computers on the network are working fine wirelessly. I also canât restore my computer to an earlier time (all prior restoration points are invalid), and the computer is no longer creating restoration points automatically. I can manually create ones that work.

THis is my sister in laws computer and she cant afford to fix it now so any help would be great!

Answer
OK, your problem is a tricky one, grasshopper! First off, you need my email address because this might not work, but like inspector gadget I have more tricks up my sleeve!

So, your problem might be that your computer has learned to look for a wired network connection. In that case you should run the new networks wizard again, and learn your computer what it is!

Another thing (I am absolutely assuming your computer has worked in the past) if it isn't your USB device or USB port, as earlier stated, it might be your addressing scheme. Somebody might have given your computer a static IP address that is faux. Two ways to fix this: the first is to enable DHCP, but chances are this is already on; so the second alternative is to give your computer a static address like so:

IP Adress: 192.168.1.10 (i say 10 because i'm not sure how many computers you have on this network, but im guessing its fewer than that)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

^^^Those settings should work because the addressing scheme I gave you should work with a windows default setup.

Even another somewhat likely problem may be that your network is encrypted for security, and your computer got left out on the authentication key. If that is the case, you will need to possibly redo the network on all computers. BUT, you can easily tell if this is the case when you search for wireless networks. Your network ( you will know it by name, also it should have the best signal) will be displayed along with a key, and logging onto that network will require a password.

Those are some of the common things that get messed up on accident...if you have a computer guru in the house, there is a totally new list of things that might have gone wrong! Let me know if those work. One thing you should do though, if none of this works and before you post again, is to go: start>run>cmd. Next, type "ping 192.168.1.1" and post the reply. That will test if your computer can reach the wireless router. If it can than that means that the computer and router is working OK, if not, than we narrow it down a bit. Good luck!
