Javascript?

Mantis

When you write javascript inside an html document or even have an external .js file, when you open the webpage in IE, it comes up asking you to allow activex controls. Why does this happen and how can I make that go away?
i realize this can be fixed by simply changing securtiy settings, however, I don't want people who are visitng my website to have to do this

Answer
I found a little info that describes why it happens:

An ActiveX control is similar to a Java applet. Unlike Java applets, however, ActiveX controls have full access to the Windows operating system. This gives them much more power than Java applets, but with this power comes a certain risk that the applet may damage software or data on your machine. To control this risk, Microsoft developed a registration system so that browsers can identify and authenticate an ActiveX control before downloading it. Another difference between Java applets and ActiveX controls is that Java applets can be written to run on all platforms, whereas ActiveX controls are currently limited to Windows environments.

These are the steps you need to do in order to make it go away.

To enable JavaScripting, click the Security tab.
Locate the Custom area of the Security tab, and click the Custom Level button.
From the Security Settings dialog that opens, scroll through the options until you see Scripting.
Check the radio buttons next to Enable Active Scripting and Scripting of Java applets.
Click OK to accept scripting and cookie handling changes and close the Security Settings window.
From the Internet Options dialog, click Apply to effect settings then OK to close the dialog.

edit:
Sorry, but there's no easier way around this, other than to have that option already enabled in their browser. The only way people won't have to enable this option is if a) you take javascript off of your webpage, b) they already have this option enabled or c)you let them know that you have safe features on your page that may require that they allow ActiveX controls to run on their computer. Above it says "ActiveX controls have full access to the Windows operating system.....but with this power comes a certain risk that the applet may damage software or data on your machine." The ActiveX control notifies people that their browser needs to access something that may or may not harm their computer. I think Microsoft if working to get rid of this annoyance with IE7, but as of yet have not really done anything about it.

Can i remove yahoo from my computer without losing my contacts?

tamerwin49

I am having severe trouble with my yahoo loading mail. When i click on my inbox, it goes back to my "home page" and then in order to retreive my mail, it have to go to classic. it also does not load the chat or text. is it possible to remove the yahoo program and then re-load without losing all my info. Is it on its own server so that when I go back to it, it may be fixed?

Answer
The New Mail need Adobe Flash and Javascript upgraded to load the features of the new mail. All your data, contacts are on the Yahoo server so you won't loose things, but if your computer is unable to load these programs, adobe, etc, you will be right back where you started. You will probably have to stay with the classic mail. Most older computers are unable.
