Answer
I have a Computer Science degree and have a number of friends with both Computer Science and Computer Engineering degrees. Many of these friends (and myself) have jobs as Software Engineers. This was Money magazines's top career this past year. See this article for salary info, etc.: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/

Other alternatives with a Computer Science major could be anything from Research/Education, System Administrators, or any other type of Information Technology job.

Answer
If you have a bachelor's degree in science, you can work in many different fields with computers and information technologies. When deciding on a job that suits you, consider what is involved in each area as well salary and possibilities for career advancement.

Information Technlogy Manager

IT managers oversee the entire IT department.
An information technology, or IT, manager oversees several areas of a company's technology and computer departments. This includes telephones, internal computer and security systems as well as purchasing of hardware and software. An IT manager must ensure that purchases and orders are done to budget and that the IT department uses systems to best serve the productivity of the business. They usually have a team of computer technicians under them. This is a top-level management position, and so the compensation is high. Depending on the company size, you can make on average up to $100,000 a year as of 2011; pay starts around $50,000 a year for smaller companies as of 2011.

Information Technology Specialist

IT specialists design websites among other things.
An IT specialist works in a number of fields, usually with a focus on Internet applications and company websites. Often they are in charge of designing the website as well as administrating it. This involves liaising with graphic designers and the management team. It also involves designing special applications that clients can use for ordering, emails and so on. As for administration, an IT specialist resolves software problems that occur with the website. IT specialists tend to work under somebody else such as the IT manager. Therefore, they have room for promotion and will often move into a management position. The average salary for IT specialists as of 2011 is $30,000 to $70,000 a year, often at the lower end for recent graduates.

Software Engineer

Software engineers are one of the highest paid positions in IT.
Software engineers or programmers develop stand-alone software for a range of tasks. For example they can create computer games, software for companies or programs for the general public to use for any number of tasks. Software engineers work in specialized companies or as freelancers. They can range from senior engineers to software researchers and even interns. Thus their pay varies widely. As of 2011, a senior software engineer can make more than $200,000 a year. An intern will make about $10,000 a month. Overall, salaries in this field are high.

IT Project Manager

As their title suggests, project managers organize specific programming tasks.
An information technology project manager oversees the scheduling of the department on specific projects. Managers also set monthly goals and tasks. They manage the team on these specific tasks to ensure everything is running to schedule. In turn, IT project managers also conduct analysis of new technologies and systems to see if they might benefit the company. They will produce reports for the company management for the introduction of these technologies. As of 2011, the average salary in this position is $90,000 a year. Project managers can move into higher management positions after they have been in the role for some time.
