A monitor or display (also called screen or visual display unit) is an electronic visual display for computers. The monitor comprises the display device, circuitry, and an enclosure. The display device in modern monitors is typically a thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) thin panel, while older monitors use a cathode ray tube about as deep as the screen size.
Originally, computer monitors were used for data processing while television receivers were used for entertainment. From the 1980s onwards, computers (and their monitors) have been used for both data processing and entertainment, while televisions have implemented some computer functionality.

I have a Sony monitor and IBM computer,i installed in my house a few months back, and in beginning every thing was fine and than, after a month,my monitor slowly became very dark!i tried making adjustments but nothing worked,i replaced monitor, but after 3 weeks i have same problem again! What would cause this?is it my PC?or is it it my internet connection?1 related thing is that when i try and log on,it takes my monitor 15 minutes before i can even make out what is on screen?is their a harddrive problem or is it something else?any info appreciated, thanks!
Answer
Generally speaking, computer monitors will begin to loose their brightness or contrast as they age. Exactly when they'll loose brightness and become darker varies, but it's a sign of the monitor is on it's last leg.
If it's to the point where adjusting the controls on the monitor itself or through the Windows control panel doesn't help all that much, then I would suggest simply replacing the monitor.
Monitors are usually more costly to repair than to replace.
