Answer
Could be overheating. Take apart your computers frame and check all the vents and blow out any dust. After that, make sure the fans are running. You may have to buy some compressed air from a store instead of blowing with your breath. You can also try turning on the computer and aiming a portable fan at your computer while the frame is open. to see if it still freezes.
If that doesn't work, check out this forum: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/general-hardware-issues/51883-freezes-every-30-45minutes.html

Advice on buying Apple computer?

Spiderspid
Hello, does anyone have any general advice about purchasing my first Apple product? Have used Dell pc's for many years and I know very little about Apples.
I like to have two monitors connected to my pc in a dual display. I'm thinking that I can buy an Apple laptop and connect it to my two monitors, then disconnect it and take it with me when I want to use it as a laptop. I'd like to get a fast machine with extra ram installed. I'm tired of my slow and buggy Dell desktop. One of my monitors has a VGA connector, the other has dvi.
Is this a reasonable plan? Is there any downside to it? Will i be able to do everything that I can do on a desktop, on a laptop? Which laptop should I buy?
Thank you!
Answer
I think your plan is a great one. Apple computers are very high quality, and you'll be able to do everything you need on a laptop.
Just so you know my own experience with Apple, I personally own a 2012 11-inch Macbook Air. In the past I owned a 2010 Macbook and then gave it to a friend who couldn't afford a new computer. I also have experience with other Macs from various photography workshops.
Apple sells three laptop models.
The Macbook Air -- an everyday notebook. It's extremely portable and comes in both eleven and thirteen inch sizes. This is ideal if your computer needs are pretty minimal, like mine. You browse the internet, store a few documents and photos.. etc. If you do more on your computer though, this model isn't ideal. The processor speed, storage space, and RAM are limited. This notebook also has very few ports, so you may have an issue connecting to your monitors. Also, I should mention that most people who own this notebook have a second computer.
The Macbook Pro -- more powerful notebook, ranging from a pretty basic base model to highly upgraded versions (of course, for a cost). This is great for people who like a lot of storage, or need a lot of processor speed and RAM for specific applications. Also, this is the only model with a disc drive. It comes in thirteen and fifteen inch sizes.
The Macbook Pro with Retina display -- this is the notebook of the future. It combines the ultra portable aspect of the Macbook Air with the power of the Macbook Pro. And, of course, it has a beautiful display. The Retina display is not just a marketing ploy, it truly is an incredible quality display that makes everything you do on your notebook more beautiful. This is the notebook for those who have the money for it. The base model is $2,199, and the fully upgraded model is $3,749. It only comes in a fifteen inch size.
So, there's a little info to get you started on purchasing an Apple Macbook. I'll just give some really quick info about the desktops in case you decide to go that route for whatever reason.
The Mac Mini -- this is the desktop equivalent of the Macbook Air. It's very small and has limited specs. However it comes for a pretty cheap price so this is a good option for some people.
The iMac -- this is the choice of most desktops buyers. It's an all-in-one (no monitor needed), and very easy to set up, and the specs are pretty good.
The Mac Pro -- this is the ultimate in desktop computers. It's one of the fastest, most powerful computers you can buy. You can spend up to $12,349 on this computer. It's definitely only for those who need ultimate performance.
I just have to mention one more:
The iPad -- this is a great addition to a Macbook Pro or Macbook Pro with Retina display. It's ultraportable and surprisingly capable, and features the beautiful Retina display. This is nice to own if you choose a fifteen inch notebook that you don't like to carry everywhere.
All right! I hope this helps get you started in your search. Also, remember to pop into an Apple Store and tell them what you're looking for -- they're very helpful in finding you the right computer for your needs. Congrats on your upgrade to Mac!
