Information and picture of msconfig.
Programs that Startup when Windows 95, 98, Me and XP boots up. To get to the Utility that shows you what is starting up go to: Start-then click on-Run, type in ( msconfig ) and click on OK. For Windows 95 users download Startup Cop,( msconfig is not in 95 ), on my Downloads page, I use this with Windows 98 to, because you do not have to Reboot everytime you disable or enable a program. In the startup tab there will be a list of all the applications that are set to run once windows has loaded. These are the main resource utilizing programs because most are running constantly in the background. The list is usually quite long and you will notice a lot of programs may be repetitive. If software is not required to be loaded on boot, uncheck the item and reboot, in Win98 Systray and Explorer are required, if you have your Email Virus scan set to run, leave that checked.
Important Note: If you are unclear of what a particular file is used for, contact the vendor of the software in order to determine how important it is for the file to load during boot up. If you are unable to locate the purpose of the file, you may wish to allow the file to continue loading, to prevent any problems from occurring.
