Performance programming vs preformance chips?

I have a 2002 ford taurus and I want to improve its performance. I don't whether it is new enough where you program it or that I need to chip it. Also if I should program it whether to buy a programmer or get performance software for my computer.any info would help.

Do you have an automatic transmission? If so, doesn't matter how you reprogramm (No chip in this computer).

HAve fun with the extra performance. But starting saving right away for a new transmission.

You'll only have about 6-months before you burn out the clutches in the old one. You'll need to have about $1,500-2,000 to do a complete rebuild.

Then you can start saving again for another rebuild six months later.
