How do computer technicians do a thorough test on an external USB hard drive?

Ive tested ide hard drives with manufacturers tools but the usb hard drives don't detect in dos. Ive tried running SeaTools but that doesn't work with usb drives it seems like in Windows. What can I do? I have 4 differant drives to test from differant manufacturers.

Go to techs support website for each manufacture of the drives. that's what they are there for... if there is no info there e-mail them for the answers... That's what I would do.

How do you boot up a computer directly to a game emulator without the os loading up and without a disc boot?

I was thinking that there may be a linux os that does this, but I can't seem to find any. I want to have my old computer play game emulators like NES and SNES, Sega, and Game Boy, without having an entire os boot up. I want it to boot up like an arcade game that has all different games on it. If you could give me a link or point in the right direction, then I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Yes emulators require an OS to operate. Linux is a OS as is DOS. I would suggest just use windows xp, edit the start up screen with custom graphics (there is info online hoe to do this), then in your start up (click START, click ALL PROGRAMS, click STARTUP) place the emulator executable file in there. I would also say look at a front end program like GAMEEX to be the selector of your multiple emulators and the games within.
