I have a Hijacker on my computer.
I have the program HijackThis, BUT you have to know what needs removing after a scan, and I am no computer wizard.
I was wondering if there is a program that detects Hijackers and removes them automatically.
Preferably something free that you can download off the internet.
Answer
As noted above DO NOT REMOVE anything from 'Hijack This' unless told to do so by someone that knows what there reading, some of thoes lines allow various Anti-virus, Messengers, and other VERY IMPORTANT programs to run!!!! and I agree 'Digital genius' dosen't have a clue and should change his name. Sorry but his advise on 'Hijack This' is distructive!
There is a website that will take a copy and paste of Hijack This information and recommend what to delete and what to keep. I just can't find a link at the moment. sorry.
Some of the programs below may help remove it, IF NOT they will help prevent it in the future.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)
The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.
These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Answer
The virus is preventing you from any Administrative tasks. (You're the owner of the computer, hence the Administrator)
I suggest you download the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and kick that virus to the curb! Then you can restore your computer.
Malwarebytes will work where McAfee, Norton, AVG, Spybot Search & Destroy, Avast, Microsoft Live One Care, Microsoft Defender, and a host of others will not!

Download page for the free version,

The free version is all you need.
If you cannot use your computer now to download Malwarebytes, use the computer you're on, and burn Malwarebytes to a CD disk. Then load the disk in your computer with the problem.
