I am almost 100% sure that I am gonna go for my AAS degree in Electrical/mechanical systems and maintenance at a state college. Any electrical/mechanical maintenance technicians out there? I see a ton of jobs open in this field. With this degree will I be able to find a job in this field quickly, or will it still be difficult at first? What are your thoughts overall in getting a degree in this field? I always wanted to get into this, so its definitely a passion. Thanks for any info or help.

You will be able to find a job if your in the right area. I got my degree in nashville TN and had a hard time finding a job until I got an offer in ohio. So I moved up there and I get a call every month from companies around here wanting to hire me.
O yea I got a degree in computer and electronic engineering. But factories are always looking for people like you.
I work in the maintenance department as the electronic specialist.

Requirements for taking the CPA exam?

I live in NY and recently graduated from college with a B.A in
sociology. However, I am thinking about studying accounting.
#1. Can someone tell me the requirements for taking the CPA
exam in NY? Does the person have to be a student studying
accounting? If so, how many credits(Major? GenEd?) or
years of experience does the person need to take the exam?
#2. Can someone recommend me CPA prep books?

The following are the requirements to sit for the CPA exam in NY State. This is taken exactly from the NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) website:
"TO MEET THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT YOU MUST HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING THREE (3) OPTIONS
Option 1 (only available through August 1, 2009)
A bachelor's or higher degree and a minimum of 120 semester hours in the following areas:
* - 24 semester hours in accounting, with courses in accounting principles (including advanced financial accounting), cost accounting, United States federal taxation, and external auditing; and
- 6 semester hours or 4 graduate credit hours in business law, including coverage of the
Uniform Commercial Code; and
- 6 semester hours in finance (No personal finance); and
- 3 semester hours in business statistics; and
- 21 semester hours in business and accounting electives; and
- 6 semester hours of economic principles which may be used toward fulfilling either the
business elective.
120-Hour Worksheet
Option 2
A bachelor's or higher degree and 150 semester hours in the following areas, which include but are not limited to at least:
* - 33 semester hours in accounting with courses in financial accounting theory and principles (including advanced financial accounting), managerial accounting, U.S. federal tax accounting, external auditing and computer auditing; and

As far as CPA Prep, Becker is the best. All of the Big 4 (PwC, D&T, E&Y, and KPMG) and the second tier forms (BDO, BKD, Grant Thornton, etc.) send their people through the Becker program. Becker is not cheap, but it works if you put in the effort.
