How can you connect a IBM compatible laptop computer to a Mac wireless router?

computer info on mac on Apple ...
computer info on mac image

Q. Problem is I am temporarily staying with friends, I have a Dell and they have a MAC with a MAC wireless system. None of us can find a way to connect my laptop to their system and in fact I can not even read that there is a wireless network for them, but I can pick up others in the area (locked). Is there a solution?

Answer
The simplest way I have found to do this is to toss all the ISP-
and manufacturer-supplied CDs in an archive folder and
configure the router manually to "dial" into the ISP and act as a
DHCP server. As it is set up now, each machine only knows how
to connect directly. You want to create a common access point
for all internet connections in your location.

I would recommend connecting the modem to the router via the
uplink port and the Mac to the router via ethernet. Depending on
the OS version, use either Open Transport or the Finder's "Go"
menu "Connect to server..." command to access the embedded
software on the router. The default IP address and administrative
password should be included in the documentation for the
router. Once connected, this should present you with a web page
viewable with a web browser where you can set up the the router
to dial into the ISP connection with the account and password
info from the ISP, and to provide NAT as a DHCP server.

Once that is done, anything that connects to the router is
automatically connected to the internet as part of a WAN. At the
very least you will want to set up a WEP password. Additionally,
you might wish to change the default name of the router, the
administrative password, firewall settings, etc.

Alternatively, you can set up the Mac to act as the DHCP server.
That is what it is trying to do now, and failing. This can be as
simple as enabling internet sharing, or more elaborate. I find it
to be more flexible and less of a burden on any of the working
machines to off-load networking to another machine, yet it can
also make sense to be able to control and monitor activity from
a desktop PC

How do i open Limewire on a Mac computer after download is complete?

Answer
here is the deal if you r still using mac os 10.4.11 then you probably upgraded to the versin that wont work with you current osx, u need to get rid of this version and track down the older version wich i think was 4.18 or close to that, here is a good word of advice!! i have a mac also and use 10.4.11 and have used lime for a long time but recently it is slow, and they have been clamping down on this site im no taking any chances on haveing to pay for the 3000 songs iv gotten from them in the past, i have recently done this and its alot better in many ways, get fire fox as a browser, i love safari but i now have both and only use the fire for this purpose and on other sites where my older safari version dont work, ps dont get 4.0 safari on your older mac 10.4.11 mying was slow as hell i reverted back to the 3, somthing, anyhow with fire fox go to a site called dizzler.com, there you can search and listen to just about anything u can think of, now with fire fox u can get a plug in called download helper, now with downlad helper up top on you tool bar you can search music on dizzler and then use the helper to download it, your chances of getting caught r slim to none, you will have to play with it for a few days to get it set up to how u like but i get my songs to my desk top the grab a bunch and drag them into itunes, now keep in mind you dont have anyway of getting the best quality but when u click a song to listen to if it doesnt sound good click another then come back to the on againg, dizzler seeks out any streaming songs on the entire net and feeds it tou so sometimes it ok sometimes not the download times is like lightening, keep in minde the stream needs to complete in the green bar fist befor the dowload takes pplace most of the time fast as heel beats that stupid lime shit but lime was good to me for many years i just dont need the hassel from lime with all this copy right shit goin on, if u were a pc user i wouldnt og given u all this info, good luck mac dude
