I am trying to get the Pod Player software from ipodsoft.com to work with my computer and ipod so i can transer the songs on my ipod back onto my computer from which they were previously deleted. However, the program can not find my ipod, and it says "make sure that your ipod is a drive in My Computer before running this application". Then it says if it is plugged in with a drive letter but the program still can't find it then you can use the pod player with a command prompt using the drive letter. Unfortunately, my ipod comes up in My Computer under the Scanners and Cameras category with no drive letter showing. So any info on how to get a drive letter or how to find the drive letter or anything on how to allow this program to find and work with my ipod would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Answer
Open iTunes. Plug your iPod into the computer and click on the iPod in the "Devices" menu when it comes up. You should check the box that says "enable disk use". Now your iPod will have a drive letter when you plug it in and you can also use it like an external hard drive if you have any room on it.

By the way, if you have the newest version of iTunes, you might not need 3rd party software to get those songs back onto your computer. When your iPod is plugged in, click "file" and go down towards the bottom of the pull-down menu. There should be an option called "transfer purcheses from ____________ " (whatever your iPod's name is) This will make a copy of the music from your iPod in iTunes.
NOTE: I'm not sure if this actually puts the file onto your computer or just in iTunes. It does not transfer songs that you added from CDs. Also don't rely on this - this tool seems almost too good to be true if you bought someone else's iPod, then you can illegally get their old songs. So be careful, you might still want to use your Pod Player software. just an idea, though.

Answer
The method described above is how to reset an iPod. The is no menu option in the iPod to enable disk use.

If you want to try putting your iPod into disk mode, follow the instructions in this apple support article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US

However, if it's coming up as a camera, I would have to guess that you have an iPod touch. If this is the case, I don't think there is a way to set it up as a removable drive. That is one of the disadvantages of the touch versus "regular" iPods.

There's a list of software in this guide that may help you out, but you may need to shell out some $$.

(If you don't have an iPod touch, then the guide below should still help you out.)

Good luck!
