How do I make Windows accept my hard drive?
Roxas806
I I had an old computer (Windows 7) and took out the hard drive I also had an even older one (Windows Vista) and took that hard drive as well without formatting any of them. Upon start up for my new build (using the old hard drives) on Windows 7 installation whenever I select custom no partitions come up. Is this because I did not format them? How would I be able to re-format them or would I need to buy a new hard drive? Thank you so much in advance.
Answer
Windows dislikes having more than one hdd/ssd in the box that is bootable. Sounds like both of your old hdds are bootable and windows may be confused as to which one to boot from.
temporarily disconnect hdds until there's only one bootable disk drive in system and then see if it boots properly.
if that handles it, you may need to find a boot manager type software [try cnet.com/downloads] to delete the boot sector info from those drives you aren't going to be booting from.
