What is the best thing to do to speed up my computer? Where do I start? What can I buy?

That question is best asked with more info about the computer,
Like the CPU size in Ghz, and the FSB speed, how much running memory you have installed,
A good free fix is to empty the recycle bin then run the disc clean up program then do a defrag, And it wont hurt to clear the prefetch too..

You will find the clean up program on your hard drives propeties(righ click on your hard drive in my computer).
And prefetch is C:WINDOWS\Prefetch

my brothers computer is a handy down it not that old i think its from 2004 but it still runs on windows xp so that's not to old.
is there anyway i can make it run faster without swapping anything out in it or is that the way it has to be. im trying to fix his computer for free and not adding anything to it..

by deleting some things. like from the desktop and everything. you know, stuff you dont really use. also make sure the recycling bin is empty. Sometimes, when you dont clear out the bin from time to time, it fills up and just stores more info on the pc. then, if you erase it, the computer has less to work with and it run smoother.
