Besides trojans and things that spy on you for information, what is the point of other types of computer viruses? are they created by best buy and circuit city so that my computer will be trashed and i'm forced to buy a new one? How does the virus creator benefit by slowing, or all together stopping my computer?
Basically, i want to know, what's in it for them? Why do they do it?
Answer
Loads of reasons but most mainly for fun.
Some get things like credit card info from you stored eg in cookies or others just are there to piss people off by formatting your hardware.
Others like ad aware will send a signal back home to say what you have been looking at and then it will force you with advertising based on that so you buy.
However others are there just to get recognition for their work and to get them selves know. Its just fun for some to write the programs that can ultimately bring whole organizations to their knees.
Also the newer viruses are coming that can track you keyboard movements through electrical signals that will ultimately track every key you press and will cause havok in the Pc world
However companies like Circuit city dont make viruses as there is enough going wrong without them needing to get involved how ever in out corrup society who knows what the guy in the back room is doing

What passwords should I change after a virus attack?

Amanda Dun
I don't know much about computer viruses, so I can't go into much detail. Simply put, my laptop was recently attacked by a virus that steals info, etc.
I'm in the process of changing my passwords on a different device while I deal with my laptop. My question is do I have to change passwords to accounts I know I haven't logged into since the attack?
Answer
If it's a Trojan Backdoor or a Rootkit type infection.....then change all passwords after the computer is clean....
