besides the ones listed of course, would you say this a good degree to go to school for?
whats the difference between this and information technology? which is better?

Answer
I highly recommend this degree, but it isn't exactly for everyone. As technology advances as a whole, the demand tends to increase for this line of work regardless of what's going on in the rest of the economy.

There are dozens of different ways you can go with an IS degree, but here are some of the popular careers:

Software Engineer
Web Developer
Project Manager
Database Administrator
Data Network Security Administrator
Technical Consultant

You certainly will need to do some in depth research to find out what best fits your skills. Sometimes it takes actual professional experience to find your niche. I'd take advantage of any internship/co-op opportunities possible while in school.

Information Systems and Information Technology are very commonly misunderstood. Neither one could be considered "better." IT actually falls under the umbrella that is IS. A professor once told me to think of Information Systems in its simplest form as a paper and a pencil. Separate they are both only tools, but together they make a system. IS is the same idea just usually much more complex. Information Technology refers to the technology used within Information Systems. Even in professional environments, these two terms are frequently mistaken as synonyms.

I hope this helps, and best of luck with your education and job search!

Career in cosmetology or computer information systems?

Chanel Tor

I was in 3 different colleges since 2008 and each time my course was in computering. My recent college experience was from an online class but I was dropped for transcript reasons. I am able to return only if my high school can submit my transcripts before the next opening. Anyways, I am now thinking of just going to a beauty school. I really like the idea of someday working at a beauty salon and another plus is that I could be working and going to school at the same time. However, my mom said that if I want to go to this beauty school, I should drop out of the online classes instead of continuing. Before she told me that, I was thinking I could do both cosmetology and the online classes for computer information systems but just recently I found out that I can't have financial aid for both schools. So my question is: Should I stick with computer information systems or drop out and just go with cosmetology? Which one pays more? I told my aunt about this situation and she said that if I stick with computer information systems, it would bring me a long way with my career. I'm also thinking that I might even want a college degree. Please help me. I'm 20 right now if that helps. Thanks.

Answer
One, on line classes are twice as hard as regular classes and 50% more expensive. Half of what we learn is from interaction from our class mates, and on line cuts that out. Also, on line schools are pushed by for profit schools, that are not cheap.

When you say cosmetology, I think about the girl who cuts my hair at great clips. Most of these girls are paid minimum wage plus tips. Many have to provide thier own tools. Computers pay twice as much.
If you enjoy computers and are getting good grades, stick with computers. I recomend a community collage to start. If you have grown to hate computers, and are getting poor grades, drop everything and cut hair. Do not go into debt for a carrieer that you hate, or will not pay.
