Also how are the taxes and housing availability market there? Government programs? compared to the other states. Thinking about moving there but want to get all the info I can before making the big trip.

Pretty good market for experienced programmers. Entry level is plugged. No taxes here except property taxes. Plenty of housing, especially condos and apartments in Anchorage. Plenty of housing in the Mat-Su valley but far fewer jobs. Fair job market in Juneau & Fairbanks but housing is far tighter.
Not sure what you mean by government programs but there are many state jobs, pay sucks. Federal jobs going south because locate pay going down.
Cost of living is pretty good in cities compared to major cities. Go to www.state.ak.us and click on jobs on right side. Workplace Alaska is the state job page, go to job announcements by location.

custom computer programming?

I have an idea for a computer program and i'm only planning on keeping it to keep me amused. I have no programming skills at all. My question is do computer programmers get paid by the hour or by the job? If you could, please throw out a "close" number so I can find out if my project is worth the cost or not.If you need more info let me know. Thank you.
the program would work like a virus but a good one, not a evil one. I want a program that will automatically change the homepage of of someones computer once i e-mail them. Nothing permanente the home page will just stay till that person went to their control panel and change it back. But if enough people get my e-mail and that e-mail automatically changes the homepage of all their friends, and so on and so on. That would be a cool way of advertising a site. It's not harmful and it is very easy for the person to change the homepage back to what ever they want.
