Answer
The motherboard in your Packard Bell, I Media 5126 is a Gigabyte GA-8SIML (S i ML) version 1.2. It's a Micro-ATX form factor motherboard.

1.Supports,( Use's), Intel Pentium 4 processors from 1.6GHz to 3.06GHz. Either with a 400MHz FrontSideBus, or a 533MHz FSB.
These Intel Pentium 4's use the Socket 478. (The newer socket for Intel is Socket T, or also called LGA 775.)

2.Supports 266MHz DDR Sdram, (PC2100), or 333MHz DDR Sdram,(PC2700) ram memory. Has two ram memory slots. MAXIMUM amount of ram memory for EACH slot is 512MB's. This add's up to a total of 1024MB's for the computer. (1GB=1024MB's)

3.Uses an AGP,(Accelerated Graphics Port), in the 2x style for graphics. You can install a graphics card in an available,(Slot that doesn't have anything in it.), PCI slot. There are three. The AGP 2X slot is faster than a PCI slot. That's why it's the best slot for your graphics. At present you have Integrated graphics,(Onboard). This is a graphics chip,(IC or Integrated Circuit=chip. Chip is computer slang term), that is soldered to your motherboard.

4.Doesn't indicate power supply wattage. (Unless I missed it. Happens!) I'm guessing it's a 200 or 250 watt ATX style unit. I KNOW it's an ATX form factor power supply!

Here is the direct link to the page that has the PDF Motherboard Manual. (Under the orange bar that has Manual in it, click on the blue Download from...to the left of English. Give it 20 to 30 seconds, or so, to download with a medium speed DSL internet connection.)
This Motherboard Manual will tell you a LOT about what can be installed for hardware in your computer, how to get into BIOS Setup Utility, and how to get around in BIOS Setup. When the PDF file has downloaded, (ALL the way!), go up to the top header on the left, and click on the floppy disk icon. (Second icon from left. Hovering your mouse cursor over it, briefly reveals, 'Save this to your computer or another source'. After you click on it, a 'Save copy' box will appear. In the-> File name box, with the blue 'highlighted' PDF file code name, I suggest clicking one time after the code name, and type->GA-8SIML Mobo Manual<- after it. It will go to your My Documents folder. (Click on Start>My Documents to find it again. Then double-click right on top of the name you gave it.) This way it will be easier to find in the future, instead of something like, 'J2639bk0'. Easier, huh?

I know, I know....all the above info probably means Pffft!, to you, but I would keep this info for reference in the future. Will come in real handy, when you need to give reference to the hardware components in your computer, and need info about the motherboard. The motherboard is the 'Building Block' of a computer. The processor is the 'Brain', and the power supply is the 'Heart'.

Installing more ram memory,(Amount), is the cheapest, and fastest way for you to upgrade this computer. If you do not have 1GB,(512MB stick, and 512MB stick), installed, this is the way to go. (The link didn't give the exact installed hardware components.) You can go to Crucial.com and use their Crucial System Scanner Tool, (On homepage just click on the 'Scan My System' button.), to see what is recommended, or go here:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=548&name=PC2100-DDR-Memory
or here:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=549&name=PC2700-DDR-Memory or here:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1353&name=PC2700-DDR-Dual-Channel-Memory
Sorry, I know that all looks confusing. Your computer uses either PC2100 or PC2700 ram memory. I wanted to show you all the choices for these. I also, in the last link, show you Dual Channel ram memory in the PC2700. This is to show you that buying 1GB of ram this way,(Two LIKE sticks of 512MB ram memory), may be the cheaper route. Cheap? $65 BUCKS! NO, it's NOT cheap! In comparison you can buy 2GB's of Dual Channel DDR2 Sdram for $50 bucks! DDR2 Sdram will NOT fit your computer however! (DDR has 184 contact pins on the bottom, DDR2 has 240 contact pins!)

Don't know how fast the frequency is on your Pentium 4 single core processor. The link didn't state it. You might look into a faster Pentium 4 for your computer. Bear in mind, that they're getting as rare as Hen's Teeth! (Pentium 4's that use a Socket 478)

A dedicated AGP 2X graphics card, would better your graphics. Cost vs performance gained, is a bad ratio. Read on.

Should you find faster Pentium 4 that is Socket 478 style, and buy the maximum amount of ram memory,(1GB or two 512MB sticks), plus buy an AGP 2X style graphics card, you may find it's cheaper, and wiser to buy a newer style motherboard, processor, and ram memory. (Also a power supply,{ATX style}, with more wattage)

The information below deals with System Restore. Very handy info to have should your computer mess up, and you want to restore it to the last known configuration that was working.

2.http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=topic_01635&psn=027057720008

I also suggest using a can or two of compressed air for computers, and cleaning out the inside of the computer, and the power supply,(Plus fan) $5 to $12 is cheap insurance compared to hardware components you may have to buy, or another computer.

Which sites do u recommend me for a complete info about Hp & Sony laptops ?

Answer
Hi there

Try the following sites for info

HP Laptops:

http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/prodserv/notebooks_tabletpcs.html

Sony Laptops:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=16154&SR=nav:electronics:computers:notebook_computers:shop_compare:ss&ref=http%3A//www.sony.com/index.php

Just browse around these sites and you're bound to find a laptop that suits your needs. Also, if you want you could read computer magazines or go to websites such as PC World (search for this in Google).

I really hope this helps and good luck!
