1 of my computers has Windows 7. One has Windows Vista? (please read extra info)?

I have backed up my Windows 7 system on an external hard drive. If i plugged the external drive into my Vista machine, can it run off the Windows 7 backup on my external hard drive? Thanks.

Answer
First, it depends on what you mean by "backup". Did you simply copy some files, pics, music, etc? Or did you do a complete exact6 copy of the Windos 7 computer's hqrd rive?

Lso, your Vista computer must have a BIOS that allows you to boot from an external drive.

Plus, your Vista computer most likely has a different CPU, graphics card, sound card, etc,,,,,

Plus Windows is "attahced" to a spcic cmputer, menaing it "knows" if it is on another computer, so you'd have to "transfer 7 to your Vista computer, which would leave your 7 computer without a working OS

Windows 7 problem: How can I restore my computer if it won't let me? *NEED A PC GENIUS* More info in question-?

Alright, it all started with me wanted to use a PS3 Duelshock 3 controller (the original kind that came with the PS3)... So, since there aren't any drivers included to run on a PC, I had to download some. The exact website I got the drivers from was: http://www.ehow.com/how_4809736_use-ps-controller-computer.html

It looked trustworthy enough, so I downloaded the drivers. Now, this isn't a virus problem, so just letting you know. I installed the drivers and the controller worked WONDERS with my PC (Laptop, HP Pavillion DV 2000).
However, the next day after turning my computer off and logging back on (to write a paper for English 102), I couldn't access the internet. Firefox, Explorer (last resort, if you know what I mean) and even Steam wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet. My computer would just slow way the heck down and eventually blue-screen or lock up.

OKAY, SO HERE'S WHERE THE WORSE PART COMES IN!!! I can't restore my computer. My registry and drivers are ALL jacked up now. No matter which restore point I choose, the restoration fails. Also, my computer-genius friend (who's in class right now, so I can't ask for his help) installed a driver sweeper thingy from his flashdrive, and it said I only had a few drivers installed, such as keyboard, mouse, screen and my graphics card. He said there were TONS of missing driver.

He told me to restore my drivers with my original Windows 7 install disk, but I didn't know how and he wouldn't pick up the phone when I'd call (he fell asleep :/)... So I tried reinstalling W7 completely, but it wouldn't let me...

SOOOOOOO, what do I do now? It's acting suuuper lame, and I REALLY need it fixed by today... Like, REALLLLLLY...

How do I restore my drivers? Or how do I use system restore if the PC won't let me? I can't just format it, because I don't backup my files (never had to/no money for disks/harddrives).

If worse comes to worse, the PC had a recall for a crappy-screen problem waaay back in 2007 or 2006... So since I didn't know to return it, my warranty was extended. However, I don't know if installing crap-drivers is covered by that warranty.

Alright, I'll stop there... I've written enough <.<; Thank you...
<.<; It's not a virus... If it was, my virus protector would have instantly said, "Warning: A virus has been found." And then it would have flipped out and shut everything down... BUT, that's not what happened. It's a problem with the... "insides" of the computer...

Answer
You asked this question before and I answered it. In case you did not see it, here it is again:
First of all, Yui!

Second of all, I know the perfect solution.

From one anime fan to another, take my advice. It is the fastest and best way possible so listen up. First, you get something called an IDE/SATA to USB Adapter (google "BT-300 topmicrousa"). This device connects your hard drive to another working computer. This also accesses the files without going through the operating system, which is causing the BSOD. This is good for many reasons but one in particular is that it is able to get your files and back them up without having to just lose them all when you reformat. I'm sure you have files on your hard drive that you find important and need so you can just back the files up really quick to another laptop or computer.

Now the main reason why you want to use this device is to use its feature of FORMATTING your hard drive. What this will do is half of the process done by Windows when you RE-format. During a RE-format process, Windows deletes everything and reinstalls. When you format, it just deletes it. So if you just use the device to wipe it clean, and I mean clean, then you can reinstall windows without getting errors.

Pop in a windows installation disk, reinstall windows, then recopy the files you just backed up to it and you are good to go.

Its really simple and the device works wonders. If you go ahead and google what I mentioned you should find it. My favorite tool to be honest and a great site to get it from.

Best of luck.
