I am using an open wifi signal that my iMac gets and it's open. Is it possible for others to hack into my computer and get my info or get things that are on my computer???
Thanks!!
P.S. I'm on a Mac
Answer
Everything you send over an open connection can be read by the owner (or anyone else) on the router! So all your usernames etc can be read just by capturing the open packets! In one demo at a hacking convention a presenter was able to get over 2000 usernames and passwords off the open system overnight!
Here is one good read even for MAC users! http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1035_22-149778.html
Here are a couple of great articles everyone should read !

By the way, if you are using a network without the owners permission, you are violating laws in all 50 states. Even Canada, UK, Austrailia, etc have laws about "Joining a network" without the owners permission! Those are covered by anti hacking/cracking laws! So just because I am stupid and leave my door unlocked, does not mean you are free to just come in and raid the fridge! Don't take my car either!

How do I replace my hard drive in my desk top?

I have an Acer Aspire...The hard drive has stopped working. I have attached it to another computer to attempt to pull photos and music off of it, however, the computer doesn't recognize the drive and doesn't even pick it up. I ordered a new SSD HARD DRIVE. I want to know if I can just start over from scratch and install the hard drive and then put a new OS system on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
When I plug the hard drive in and boot up the computer, it spins but then I get a clicking sound coming from it. I'm pretty sure the Hard drive is shot...Can I just install the hard drive on the computer and then install a new OS system?
Answer
Yes there is no reason you couldn't start over. Depending on what installation of windows you got you may not even need to pay for a new windows liscense. Check the sata connections on your motherboard if it says ide you cannot use an sdd and will have to find an old hard drive. If it is a sata 3 connection (L shape connector single wire) then go wild. SSD's actually do fail some people say more often than hdd's. If you want reliability get two hdd's and raid them so you have a backup next time.
